my favorite kid's looks....

As a kid, back to school shopping was always one of my favorite things to do.  Just the thought of buying an entire wardrobe in one day was amazing to me and I would give anything to have my Mom treat me to a shopping spree like that again...hint hint.

Kid's fashion is something that fascinates me because, while the "fit" doesn't change all that much from year to year, the "look" does.

My favorite look right now for the little girls is anything with SPARKLE!  Here are some examples of the metallic look at Growing Kids...

And a tried and true favorite for the boys is a clean cut and handsome look.  Achieve this by layering a button up and pairing it with khakis - think about something Dad would wear, and just make it smaller!

I am always so happy when I am able to come back and spend some time in the store!  Aside from the fact that this means I am in New Jersey and enjoying time with my family and friends, it’s just so nice to be able to catch up with everyone and finally get to know some of our new customers that I have heard so much about and haven’t yet had the chance to meet. 

Seeing all of the new merchandise is overwhelming and I never know where to start!  The kid’s clothes and shoes are always so adorable to me, and the women’s merchandise…well…I have trouble containing myself.  I’m sure the kid’s items will have the same effect on me after I have children of my own, but for right now…I still get to put myself first!  (I’ve been told over and over that I should enjoy it while I still can – and I couldn’t agree more)  The women’s shoes and boots that we have in stock right now are completely irresistible.

what a weekend...

I hope you were able to take advantage of the fantastic sale we had this past weekend.  We put a lot of hard work into making it something special and we’ve had so much positive feedback I am truly honored. 

One thing we learned is how important our play area is to all of the children who shop with us.  We knew they loved it, but we had no idea how much…we always just assumed it was a benefit for the Mom’s because they were able to actually shop with the kids, and not worry about them.  I can’t begin to explain the number of little ones who were truly concerned with where “the pit” went.   

There was one little girl who cried when she walked in the door and saw it was blocked off, I quickly put her mind at ease when I told her that we brought the kitchen and all the other toys over for the weekend, but she was still bummed out she couldn’t climb over the wall.  

All in all, the kids were still able to enjoy themselves, and everyone seemed to make out with some great deals, but I promise, we will NEVER block off the play area again.

We’ve been helping our customers shop resale for their seasonal and back to school wardrobes since 1993.  So to say the least, we kind of know what we’re doing.  Here are some tips to help you shop for back to school on a friendly budget. 

Look in the sizes above and below what you need.  One of the main benefits to shopping resale is that the items have already been washed, and that means if it is going to shrink, it already has!  Another benefit is the fact that there are hundreds of brands under the same roof.  It is common knowledge that different brands run differently and you could be sizes apart depending on what store you are shopping in.  For example, when you walk into Abercrombie, you know their stuff is cut extra small…but if you are shopping at The Gap – their items are cut a little larger.  So keep an open mind and analyze the item’s actual size, and not what it says on the tag.  

In the winter the schools are so hot, and the weather is so cold…layers are the way to go.     

When in doubt, take it with you…we have a 7-day return policy and it’s much better to think about it while it’s yours instead of coming back to get it and realizing its gone.

Sad but true, now is the time to start looking for your winter coats and don’t forget the hats and gloves to match. 

Shop early.  We’ve been receiving fall and winter items since the beginning of July, so we are fully stocked and ready for all of your back to school needs.   

Shop often.  Our inventory changes daily and since our prices are so great, items don’t stick around very long.  I would honestly suggest coming in at least once a week and if you drop off merchandise on every trip, it’s a great way to make some spending money while you’re at it.  

Most importantly, get creative and have fun!  When you shop resale, you have the ability to create your own style and stand out from everyone else who spent far too much, on the same clothes everyone else has, while shopping in the mall.

friday night fireworks...

My husband's birthday was this past Thursday and as a birthday gift from a good friend out here in LA, Matt and I were given front row tickets to our first Dodgers baseball game, thanks Andy!  We couldn't take our eyes off the field for even a second because we were in foul territory and at any time a hard line drive could've come right at us, a few almost did.  The guy sitting to our right had a baseball glove on and I was praying he knew how to catch because I only had my bare hands.  I just kept thinking, "Should I try to catch the ball if it comes this way, or just cover my head??"

Now, I didn't know this, but after every Friday night home game at Dodgers stadium there is a fireworks display!  They literally turn off all of the lights inside the stadium and put on a fantastic show in center field.

 

I've never been inside a major league ball park at night with all the lights out, 

it was pretty awesome.

 

Another thing that was really cool...after the game they fenced off the infield and allowed all of the fans down on the grass to watch the fireworks!  So, if you're ever in Los Angeles on a Friday night when the Dodgers are in town, make sure to bring the kids to the game - and sneak down as close to field level as you can get during the bottom of the 9th inning so you are assured a good spot...it will be an experience they will never forget!
