Melissa and Doug...Item of the week!

Play food is an all time favorite amongst the youngsters, pretending to be like Mommy or Daddy cooking and serving meals is always so fun for them.  At the same time, they are learning important life skills and enhancing their imagination.  Melissa and Doug have some incredible pretend play items in their collection...

The Bake and Decorate Cupcake Set is awesome because you can actually decorate the tops of the cupcakes with the markers provided and they will wipe clean with a wet paper towel.  The Ice Cream Cone set is great because there is a magnet inside the scooper and when you press the button it releases the ice cream into the cone, they have also added the ice cream container to this set, so it's perfect for storing all of the pieces when it's time to clean up.
The waitress role play set is a new addition to their dress up collection and it's absolutely adorable!  It comes with a serving tray, a menu, name tag and a book to write up orders.  If your little one prefers to do the cooking over the serving...the chef costume is perfect, it has cooking utensils, an oven mitt and a chef hat...super cute!!
Who doesn't love dessert?  The cookie set is so cute because it has the container for the cookie dough, utensils, an oven mitt and a cookie sheet, it also has individual cookies that have mix and match toppings.  The doughnuts are the same in the way you can mix and match the different toppings and the brownies are so cute because they have a box of brownie mix and serving utensils!
Pretending it is someone's birthday is always a great time!  You actually decorate this cake with velcro toppings and candles and you can actually cut and serve this cake!  The same goes for the pizza party...you can roll it with the pizza cutter and when you cut the velcro apart it sounds like you are cutting a real crispy crust!
Cutting fruit and the Sandwich Making set are also some classic items...the fruit is so fun to cut up and make fruit salad out of, and the sandwiches can be made to fit anyone's order!
Food groups are fantastic because it really helps the kids to understand the different food groups and learn a little bit more about nutrition!
Felt Food is a new addition to Melissa and Doug's collection as well...this Create Your Own Cookie Set is awesome because it comes with a cookie sheet, cookie cutters and decorations!!  You can also add your own felt pieces for a little art project.

Don't forget all of our toys are brand new and we also have lots of brand new clothing and accessories!  Make sure you add us to your holiday shopping stops this year!!

feel fresh fridays...dress up the drab

Winter is quickly approaching and everyone is stocking up on warm and comfy clothes but, with gray skies outside and gray sweaters in your closet, everything about the season can seem a bit drab. At Renewal we believe style shouldn't be sacrificed for warmth...besides, with Thanksgiving coming up, we want to make sure you are dressed to impress.

Pairing brightly colored scarves with dark knits is a great way to liven up your wardrobe and stay warm at the same time.

Accessories are also a winter must-have. You can match various necklaces and rings with your favorite sweater or long-sleeved shirt to give it a fresh feel every time.

Stop in soon so we can help you feel fresh for Thanksgiving!

We've also had so many compliments on our jewelry racks that Becca made and I thought I'd share a little 'how-to' in case you want some in your bedroom or closet!
What you'll need and 4 simple steps...
1.  Take any shaped piece of wood and sand it until it's smooth to avoid splintering
2.  Stain it whatever color you wish
3.  Put a coat of polyurethane to seal it with a shine
4.  Hammer finishing nails randomly into the wood to hang the jewelry from.

Make sure to let us know if you decide to make one...we'd love to see it!!

little elegance...holiday style

Each year when we celebrate another year of business my family reminisces about where it all began.  It's not uncommon for the family videos to come out and remind us of the enthusiasm and happiness from such an incredible memory.  No matter how many times I watch those videos, I am still amazed at my Mom's courage and drive to complete such an undertaking.

A few weeks ago we stumbled upon a tour of the store (narrated by my sister) on October 22, 1993, the night before our grand opening.  It reminded me of one of my Mom's original idea's 'Little Elegance' which was a section of our store for fancy party and holiday outfits.

So, last weekend when my Mom went on vacation, I surprised her by re-introducing Growing Kids - Little Elegance...Check it out!

One of my favorite things to do is create corresponding children's holiday outfits and there is no better joy than receiving the Christmas card and seeing those outfits in action...stop in so we can help you put some together and make sure you are ready for holiday photos!!

Who said you can't find matching outfits in a resale store??

Looking for a more casual look?  We have items for every style...

Don't forget the dress coat and shoes!
